Over 600 years old, this gold French coin set in an elegant necklace dates to 1364-1380 CE and celebrates the figure of King Charles V. On the front of the coin, the king stands proudly beneath a medieval arch surrounded by fleur-de-lis, and he bears the iconic symbols of French royalty—a sword and scepter surmounted by the Hand of Justice. On the coin's reverse, a cross fleurée is set within a quatrefoil motif and the symbols of French Royalty.

Charles V, known as le Sage ("the Wise"), ruled France from 1364 until his death in 1380, and his reign was a pivotal moment in the Hundred Years' War. One of the most accomplished of the medieval kings, Charles rebuilt the treasury, created France's first permanent army and regained most of its lands lost to England in the war—effectively reversing many of the country's earlier defeats.
